Lok Sabha Elections: In this Lok Sabha elections, the biggest discussion in UP is about the frequently changing list of Samajwadi Party (SP) and the names of its candidates.
Just two days ago, SP had given a ticket from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat to Tej Pratap Yadav, a member of the Saifai family and nephew of Akhilesh Yadav, who is also the son-in-law of the former Chief Minister of Bihar and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav.
Tej Pratap was to file his nomination from Kannauj seat on April 24, but now his nomination has been postponed. Now there is news that SP has changed the candidate on the Kannauj seat.
Now SP chief Akhilesh Yadav will contest from the Lok Sabha seat of Kannauj, which is known as the city of perfumes, in place of Tej Pratap.
Announcing Akhilesh's candidature, SP General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav said that Akhilesh Yadav will contest from Kannauj. Akhilesh is going to file his nomination from Kannauj seat on the afternoon of 25th April.
Earlier, SP had also changed candidates in other constituencies including Budaun, Meerut, Moradabad, Misrikh and Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Now questions are being raised on the decision to change the candidate from Kannauj. Concerns are increasing as to why Akhilesh Yadav himself had to contest from the Kannauj seat in the Lok Sabha elections and why Tej Pratap was made the candidate in his place within just 48 hours of the announcement.
The Samajwadi Party (SP) had initially given ticket to Akhilesh Yadav's nephew Tej Pratap Yadav from the Kannauj seat. However, shortly after the announcement of his candidature, the local SP unit expressed strong opposition to this decision.
A delegation of SP leaders from Kannauj met party chief Akhilesh Yadav and informed him about the dissatisfaction of the party workers and reiterated their request to him to contest the elections himself.
