A senior government official from Karnataka said on Monday that if the coronavirus cases continue to increase at the current rate of four per cent per day, the state may get around 25,000 cases of infection by August 15. The officer insisted on maintaining physical distancing and applying masks to prevent the virus from spreading.
Munish Mudgil, the head of COVID-19 war room in Karnataka, said in a statement that according to estimates the situation is so sensitive that if cases of infected increase at the rate of three per cent per day then COVID-19 cases in the next 50-60 days will increase to 17,000 cases but if the rate remains at four percent, the number of infection cases in the state will increase to 25,000.
A total of 9,150 cases of COVID-19 have been reported so far in the state of which 3,391 patients are under treatment, 5,618 have been cured and 137 people have died due to the pandemic. According to official figures, cases of infections have been increasing at the rate of four percent per day for the last five days.
Mudgil said, "I want to tell that till August 15, there may be twenty five thousand cases of infection in the state." However, he said that it is very difficult to accurately predict the number of cases of COVID-19, especially after the next 15-20 days as it will depend on the behavior of citizens after the lockdown and the steps taken by the government.
