48 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in South Korea and according to data released by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Center (KCDC) on Sunday, there are 12,421 total cases of infected now in the country, out of which 280 people have died.
KCDC reported that 24 of the new cases have come from the densely populated Seoul metropolitan area, which has been the epicenter of infection in the country since the end of May. Apart from this, 10 other cases have been reported from the city of Daejeon, which is an indication that the virus is now spreading on a large scale. This is clearly due to increasing public activity and relaxation in social distance norms.
KCDC has said that so far around 200 cases of infected have been found to be linked to the employees of a company selling door-to-door sales in Seoul, which mostly consists of employs above the age of 60. In addition, 70 other cases are related to table tennis clubs in other parts of Seoul and the virus spread in the churches by these same people.
Health officials had earlier found hundreds of cases linked to the gathering of employees in nightclubs, e-commercial companies and churches. Some experts say that the country should strictly implement the social distance guidelines again, but officials are reluctant to do so because of concerns about the damage to the economy already in crisis.
