On Thursday, Reliance Jio launched a video conferencing app 'JioMeet' in India. It is available on both Google Play and App Store. In addition to direct calls (1: 1 calling) support, a meeting can be held with 100 participants. Sign-up can be done through mobile number and email ID on the app.

What facilities will be available in JioMeet?

JioMeet allows the user to make unlimited free calls in high definition (720 pixels resolution). It can add up to 100 participants at a time. Let us tell you that it is completely free. All meeting passwords will be protected and it also has waiting room support like the zoom app. The company says that the app supports multi-device (up to 5 devices) login, users will be able to easily switch from one device to another during calls.

Neither code nor invoice required:

No code or invoice will be required to initiate the call. However, people who are connecting with the desktop version of the app can click on the JioMeet Invite link and become part of the video call from their browser without downloading the app. It also has features like scheduling meeting, screen share with each other.

Desktop version of JioMeet:

In addition to Android and iOS phones, users working on desktop can access the video conferencing platform through Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. It is absolutely free.

On mobile device – Go to Play Store / App Store, search JioMeet App and download it.

Is this app safe for use?

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) warned the zoom app users that the app is not safe for use. The Government of India then announced the Innovation Challenge to develop a video conferencing app in late April. The government wanted the developers to create an alternative to the zoom app. Prize money of 1 crore rupees was announced for the winner. JioMeet's official website is claiming that all meetings will remain encrypted. However, JioMeet will have to be ready to challenge other popular video conferencing platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet.
