US Vice President Kamala Harris during her visit to Singapore said that the US is currently focusing its full attention on the evacuation of citizens from Afghanistan. After this, there will be a lot of time to analyse the context of the troop withdrawal. Harris met with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and President Halimah Yacob on Monday and discussed ways to reduce China's growing economic and security influence in the region.
During a joint news conference with Singapore's prime minister, Harris said, "There is going to be plenty of time to analyse what has happened and what has taken place in the context of the withdrawal from Afghanistan. But right now we are singularly focused on evacuating American citizens. Afghans who have worked with us and Afghans who are vulnerable, including women and children and that is our singular focus at this time. Today, we are in Singapore to stress and reaffirm our enduring relationship to this country. And in this region, and to reinforce a shared vision of a free and open Indo Pacific region."
Lee said that Singapore has sent its military force to Afghanistan. Harris also thanked Lee for helping the United States rescue people in Afghanistan. Singapore has sent its Air Force's MRTT aircraft to Afghanistan. It can carry a load of 266 passengers or 37 thousand kg of luggage at a time. "We hope Afghanistan does not become an epicentre for terrorism again," said Lee.
The US is airlifting its citizens and concerned Afghans to save them from the havoc of the Taliban. On the other hand, Britain has requested the US to extend the deadline of the operation to evacuate people from Kabul beyond August 31. Britain says that without America no country will be able to help people leaving Afghanistan.
