Prem Chand Sharma is the person who has been awarded the Padma Shri award. He wrote a new chapter in the field of agriculture. Even after passing the fifth, he did that on the basis of his ability. In the inaccessible areas of the Jaunsar-Bawar tribal area of Uttarakhand, he not only did the difficult work of farming and horticulture but also cultivated pomegranate, broccoli and cherry tomatoes by doing innovative experiments. In the field of agricultural development, from the year 2012 to 2018, he was awarded many state level and national awards.
It is not easy to do agriculture and gardening in difficult areas, but it is said that where there is a will, there is a way. Even though the progressive farmer Prem Chand inherited the lessons of farming from his father, late Jhauram Sharma, but seeing that there was no profit in traditional farming. However, he did new experiments. He started it with the organic farming of pomegranate in 1994. If this experiment was successful, he inspired other farmers of the area to do the same.
Prem Chand Sharma belongs to a simple family of Atal village of Jaunsar-Bawar tribal area adjoining Dehradun. He was associated with agriculture since childhood. After the death of his parents, all the responsibility fell on his shoulders and then the journey of his struggle started. In the initial period, he faced many problems in farming, but he did not give up.
Prem Chand did a new experiment in agriculture and horticulture. In the year 1994, he introduced pomegranate cultivation to promote fruit production in Atal. Talking about the year 2000, he prepared a nursery of 1.5 lakh saplings of improved varieties of pomegranate and distributed pomegranate saplings to about 350 farmers of the tribal area and neighbouring Himachal Pradesh. He also went for training in many states. However, in the year 2013, he formed the Fruit and Vegetable Producer Committee by collecting about two hundred farmers belonging to Sainj-Taranu and Atal Panchayats of Deoghar Khat. During this, he played an important role in the development of agriculture and horticulture by starting the Agricultural Service Center at the village level.
Prem Chand Sharma managed the economy of others along with him through farming. He also promoted the production of cash crops in the area and this already connected many rural farmers, thereby improving their economy. Progressive farmer Prem Chand, who promoted organic farming, illuminated the name of the village with his works and got recognition across the country.
Prem Chand Sharma not only played a leading role in agriculture and horticulture but has also held important positions in the village. From 1984 to 1989, he was the Deputy President of Sainj-Atal Panchayat. And from 1989 to 1998 took over the responsibility of the President of Sainj-Atal.
