Jitender Singh Shunty, the founder of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sewa Dal, who conducted thousands of last rites during the Corona period, has been honoured with Padma Shri.

Jitender Singh Shunty, the founder of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sewa Dal, who conducted thousands of last rites during the Corona period, has been honoured with Padma Shri by the President for social service. He expressed happiness and said, Bhagat Singh had kissed the noose for the sake of the country at the age of 23, and I am doing my work inspired by him.

In fact, Jitender Singh Shunty, a two-time councillor from Jhilmil ward of Delhi and MLA from Shahdara, has been running an organization called Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sewa Dal for the last 26 years. This organization provides free ambulance services.

Working for the service of the people for about 25 years

Jitender Singh Shunty said we have been working for the service of the people for about 25 years. During the Corona period, when no one was touching anyone, we helped them. Apart from me, my driver and children also supported me in this, during which one of my drivers was also martyred.

"We have cremated more than 4000 dead bodies. The honour that the President has given me has boosted our morale even more. I have not got this award but got those who supported me with them.

Last rites of more than 4 thousand people during the first wave

He said, since the first wave of Corona, we have done the last rites of more than 4 thousand people. Our ambulance was always ready for more than 19 thousand patients and took them to the hospital. Apart from this, we also immersed the ashes of more than 14 thousand people. According to Shunty, on January 26, when my name came for this award, after that the second wave of Corona came, during which we worked more than the last time.

Nothing is an award in front of passion, says Shunty

He said that people told me during that time that now you are going to get Padma Shri, so what is the need to come to the cremation ground. So I used to tell him that nothing is an award in front of passion. Bhagat Singh had kissed the noose at the age of 23, we are his supporters. According to him, the work of transporting patients from hospital to home and home to hospital was started during the Corona period, but due to the increasing epidemic, this journey reached the cremation of dead bodies.
