ByteDance Will Shut Down Music Streaming Service 'Resso' In India, The Company Will Refund The Subscription Fees Of Users

TikTok's parent company ByteDance will shut down its music streaming service Resso in India on January 31. Moneycontrol has given information about this in one of its reports.

According to the report, after the order of the Government of India, 'Reso Music' was removed by Google from Play Store and Apple from App Store in December 2023. However, currently the streaming service is working through the website.

Company will refund subscription fees of Reso users

Responding to Moneycontrol's query, a ByteDance spokesperson said, 'Unfortunately, due to local market conditions, we are no longer able to continue serving Reso users in India. Therefore, we have decided to close RESO and its related operations on January 31. Users will be refunded their subscription fees.

ByteDance launched Reso in 2020

ByteDance launched Reso in India, Indonesia and Brazil in March 2020. In the app, users were given the facility to stream music tracks through free and paid subscription. Paid users were given many features including high quality audio, offline music download.

TikTok was banned in India in June 2020

The Indian government had banned ByteDance's social media platform TikTok in June 2020, calling it a threat to national security, soon after which Apple removed the app from the App Store and Google removed the app from the Play Store. In January 2021, the government had imposed a permanent ban on TikTok. Moneycontrol quoted sources as saying that ByteDance has no plans to bring TikTok back in India.
