McLaren Formula E team racer Jack Hughes registered his name in the Guinness World Records. Hughes beat Mahindra Racing's Lucas di Grassi inside a London building and clocked a speed of 218 kmh. The record for the highest indoor speed was 168 per hour, which was recorded in February 2021.

There was competition between Hughes and Lucas

Hughes and Lucas competed in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The pair faced off in a 'duels' format in qualifying for Formula E races.

It was organized to see who could set the fastest speed on a race track only 346 meters straight, using a GENBETA car. Di Grassi gave a tough fight to Hughes by running at a speed of 218.18 kmph.

Google worked on Generative AI

In addition to the GENBETA car's technology, Google Cloud also applied generative artificial intelligence (AI) to the car to analyze drivers' races. This makes it easy to analyze the racer and his driving. Along with this, AI also tells the racer the points of improvement.

Experts from McKinsey & Company worked with its AI arm, QuantumBlack, on data and analytics to create the driver interface. AI helped in giving real time data.

Started from standstill and proceeded in track

The drivers began the race from a standstill inside the ExCeL London event area and took a 130 degree turn at approximately 40 km/h before accelerating along the 346 m straight of the race track.

The indoor straight is part of a 2.09km track that is unique in world motorsport for its extension inside and outside the 100,000 sq m XCL London event area in the Docklands area of East London which will host the final two races of the world championship in ABB FIA Formula E.
