JSW MG Motor India on Wednesday unveiled an all-electric convertible roadster, the 'Cyberster'. This will be India's first fully-electric sports car which is powered by two motors. Cyberster can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds.
Apart from Cyberster, MG Motor also displayed two more electric cars MG 5 and MG 4 at the event held in Mumbai. MG 5 and MG 4 are already available in the European market and can be launched in India soon with the same specifications.
Commenting on the unveiling of these three cars, JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal said that they want to launch a new electric vehicle every 3-4 months. He said, 'The idea is to create a Maruti moment.'
Jindal said- Maruti brought new cars in the 90s and now they have 50% market share. JSW with MG can create new energy vehicle Maruti Moment. To reduce India's dependence on oil imports, focus on new energy vehicles is necessary.
Sajjan Jindal said, 'Making cars was my childhood passion, but I got involved in steel related work. The idea of building a car with steel work remained in my mind. When new electric vehicles came in 2016, I thought we should bring electric cars.
MG Motor India and JSW Group also announced the name of the joint venture today. The name of this joint venture is JSW MG Motor India. MG Motor is a company owned by Chinese car manufacturer SAIC Motor. Whereas JSW is an Indian group.
JSW Group holds 35% of the company's Indian operations. This joint venture will launch its first car in the festive season in October 2024. JSW Group will help MG Motor India expand capacity from one lakh vehicles to three lakh vehicles annually.
