Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav launched the Sanchar Saathi portal on Tuesday (May 16), a day before World Telecom Day. On this occasion, he said that when anyone will give information about lost mobile on this portal, then after that some identity verification will take place. Immediately after that the portal will block the phone by interacting with the online telecom operator and law enforcement agency.

Vaishnav said that only blocking the SIM is not a solution, it is necessary to block the phone. Along with this, anyone can check through this portal that how many SIMs are active in his name. If you see any such number in it which you have not taken, then you can block that too.

Till now the Center for Department of Telematics (C-DOT) was running a pilot project of this system in some telecom offices of Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka and North-East region, which has now been rolled out across India.

Sanchar Saathi portal will also investigate mobile smuggling

C-DOT Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Rajkumar Upadhyay told the news agency that there is an in-built mechanism in the system which will also check smuggling of mobiles.

Phone can be tracked even after changing IMEI number

At present, criminals mostly change the IMEI number of the device after stealing the mobile, due to which the mobile could not be tracked or blocked. Rajkumar Upadhyay told that this portal will be able to track and block the device even after changing the IMEI number.

8000 phones recovered with the help of portal

According to the Sanchar Sathi portal, till now more than 4.81 lakh lost or stolen mobiles have been blocked through this portal. With this, more than 2.43 lakh mobiles have been tracked. According to media reports, so far 8 thousand phones have been recovered with the help of this portal.
