The business of weddings in India is huge. Consultancy company KPMG estimates that the marriage industry will be around Rs 3.71 lakh crore annually. This business was growing every 25% before the pandemic.

On the other hand, online services are running while the brightness of wedding ceremonies has faded. Leading online site Matrimony.com's revenue has grown by 20% in the last year. There has been a jump in the number of subscribers of the oldest site Shaadi.com. Many wedding platforms have started for online marriage.

Relationships being fixed through zoom video conferencing

Matrimonial relationships are also getting fixed with the help of digital technology. Now the number of matrimonial introduction conferences has reduced a lot. There is no need to sit face-to-face or introduce the bride and groom on stage. Marriages are being arranged in the presence of parents through Zoom video conferencing. Boy and girl introduce each other.

Events like online engagement and ladies sangeet

Murugavel Janakiraman, head of matrimony.com, expects their new video calling feature to continue for introductions. With video calling, people will no longer complain about not being able to see boys and girls almost directly.

Another online pairing service-JeevanSaathi.com's video meetings grew more than 11 times. The call time was ten times longer. Events like pre-wedding engagement, ladies sangeet are becoming more online.

All the arrangements are being done easily through the online site itself.

Kanika Subaiah, Head of WeddingWishlist.com says, Newlywed couples seek the blessings of the elders of the family by touching the screen on the laptop. Services like the Wedmigood app cater to makeup artists, photographers, caterers and priests.

Online baby shower

Many families have conducted a Covid-19 test by sending health workers to the homes of the guests who attended the wedding directly. WeddingWishlist has conducted over 100 virtual weddings. The new opportunities are not limited to the new couple's nuptial bond. Some sites have started making the baby shower ceremony online.
