After studying the data so far after the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in South Africa, IIT Prof. Manindra Agarwal predicts that the third wave may come in the new year.

According to him, assuming that Omicron has started spreading, then the third wave of corona infection is expected to reach its peak early next year. The Omicron variant is spreading much faster than the Delta variant of Corona. Prof. Manindra has suggested that people should be careful, those who have not been vaccinated should get their doses soon and follow the rules and regulations of automatic lockdown.

Omicron is capable of bypassing the immunity of the vaccine to some extent

IIT Prof. Manindra Agarwal said that till now the new variant Omicron of Corona has not been able to bypass any person with natural immunity. People who have been infected in the past and have been cured, have developed good immunity on their own, they have not yet seen much effect of this virus.

Prof. Agarwal said that it is believed that the new variant of Corona is capable of bypassing the immunity of the vaccine to some extent. Similarly, people who have developed immunity after getting the vaccine, are not able to bypass them too much. Due to this, this is not likely to be much effective in India, because 80 percent of the people in India have natural immunity.

Omicron will not create such a situation

Prof. Agarwal said that if we assume that Omicron has started spreading in India, then the third wave will be at its peak in the early months of next year. After that, it will decline slowly. However, during the second wave, the situation of the country was very poor and there was a great need for hospitals and oxygen beds, Omicron will not create such a situation in the country.
