US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Wednesday again extended the expiration dates on Johnson & Johnson's Coronavirus vaccine. This provides health workers six more weeks to use millions of doses of the vaccine. Vaccine expiration dates are based on drug manufacturers' information about how long the shots might work properly.
In a letter to Johnson & Johnson, the FDA said that vaccines remain safe and effective for at least six months when properly stored and refrigerated. This is the second time the FDA has extended the expiration date of vaccines since June. The agency said they can be used for up to four and a half months. When first approving the vaccines in February, the FDA said that the vaccines could be stored for up to three months.
