Coronavirus Worldwide: Confirmed Cases Surpasses 201.8 Million-Mark

Coronavirus pandemic continues wreaking havoc worldwide. According to worldometer.com, a total of 201,877,094 cases have been reported so far. Of these, 181,607,067 people have recovered, while 4,284,424 people have died. In the last 24 hours, 70.48 lakh new cases were registered across the world. Meanwhile, 46.84 lakh people have also recovered, while 10,392 people died.

Johnson & Johnson applies for approval of its Covid Vaccine in India:

US pharmaceutical giant Johnson and Johnson on Friday said it has applied for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of its single-dose coronavirus vaccine in India. Earlier on Monday, the company had said that it is looking forward to the discussion with the Government of India.

In a statement, a Johnson & Johnson India spokesperson said, "On August 5, 2021 Johnson & Johnson Pvt Ltd applied for EUA of its single-dose COVID-19 vaccine to the government of India. This is an important milestone that paves the way for bringing the company's single-dose COVID-19 vaccine to the people of India. And the rest of the world, through a collaboration with Biological E Limited. Biological E will be an important part of our global supply chain network, helping to supply our Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine through the extensive collaborations and partnerships we have with governments, health authorities and organisations such as Gavi and the COVAX Facility."

More than 44,000 cases reported in India:

India has been witnessing a gradual decrease in daily coronavirus cases. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, India reported 44,643 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 3,18,56,757. With 464 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 4,26,754.

The country also witnessed 41096 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 3,10,15,844. With this, the country's recovery rate has increased to 97.36 %. On the other hand, India's mortality rate stands at 1.34 %. Meanwhile, the number of active cases in the country stands at 4,14,159. The active cases rate in India stands at 1.30 %.
