A new strain of the Delta variant of COVID-19 has been identified in Sweden, with some cases being among fully vaccinated individuals. According to the reports, eight people have been found infected with the new E484Q strain of the delta variant. All these cases reported in Uppsala, about 70 km north of capital Stockholm. Studies indicate that this strain is highly infectious. All new cases have been found in those traveling from abroad. "We take all variants against which vaccines may not have the same protection seriously," said Matt Martinell, medical manager of the sampling unit of the Uppsala region.

According to the latest official figures, Sweden has recorded more than 1.11 million COVID-19 cases. So far, 80.5 percent of the adult population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 61.1 percent have received both.
