Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced to give doses of corona vaccine to children in the age group of 15 to 18 years in the country. Bharat Biotech's vaccine 'Covaxin' is likely to be available for the vaccination. Along with this, now the third dose of the corona vaccine will also be administered in the country. The government is calling it a precautionary dose instead of a booster. This dose will be administered to the frontline workers and the elderly above 60 years of age on the advice of the doctor.

PM Modi said...

In PM’s address to the nation late on Saturday, PM Modi cautioned against the growing threat of Omicron and detailed the preparations of the government. He said that although the government is ready to deal with every challenge, the countrymen will also have to ensure covid-appropriate behavior.

The PM said, 'Currently the discussion of Omicron is going on in full swing. Its experiences in the world are also different, the estimates are also different. Scientists of India are also keeping a close watch on this and are working on it'.

Modi further said, 'Today, when 11 months have been completed for our vaccination, then some decisions have been taken today keeping in view the studies done by the scientists and the experiences of the world. Today is Atal Ji’s birthday, Christmas festival, so I thought I should share this decision with all of you’.

Only Bharat Biotech's vaccine 'Covaxin' is likely to be available for the Covid-19 vaccine to be given to adolescents in the age group of 15-18 years from January 3 next year. Given this information, government sources said that health and frontline personnel and people above 60 years of age suffering from serious illness will be given the third dose of the same vaccine as the first two doses have been given to them.

Zydus Cadila's vaccine 'Jacov-D'

Sources said that Zydus Cadila's vaccine 'Jacov-D' has not been included in the country's vaccination program so far, even for the adult population. However, it was approved by the Drug Controller for emergency use on August 20, making it the first vaccine in the country that can be administered to the age group of 12-18 years.

The interval between the second and third doses of the Covid-19 vaccine can be nine to 12 months. Necessary changes are being made on the Covin portal so that a new category of vaccination can be registered. The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) on Friday approved the indigenously developed Covaxin vaccine for emergency use on children above the age of 12 years but also imposed some conditions.
