The Indian Railways is running Shramik Special Train in Corona, following all the guidelines for convenient travel of the people. In times of Corona crisis, Indian Railways has so far transported about 60 lakh workers to their home states, whereas Indian Railways is running labor special trains based on the demand of the states.
The chairman of the Railway Board said that the number of trains that would be required to take the migrants to their homes would be made available within 24 hours on the demand of the state. He has written a letter to the Chief Secretaries of all the states, that they should provide information about trains, related stations and routes as per the requirement of migrant workers by 10 June. Accordingly, the operation of additional labor special trains can be started accordingly. The Chairman of the Railway Board has also assured to provide more labor special trains if needed in the future.
Indian Railways has so far run more than 4347 labor special trains to send about 60 lakh people to their home states. These labor trains are running from 1st May 2020, and these trains are being run on the basis of the demand of the states.
Let us tell you that in order to bring migrant workers to their homes, the Supreme Court in its order dated May 28, 2020, said that necessary arrangements should be made for such migrants who want to go to their homes and the Indian Railways is taking all necessary steps keeping this order in mind. Railways have written a letter to the states to inform the workers about the requirements of special trains by June 10 to take the migrant laborers to their homes.
Yogi Adityanath's government in Uttar Pradesh has demanded more laborer special trains to send back migrant workers belonging to other states. In fact, workers working in brick kilns now want to go back to their states, especially those from Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Avneesh Awasthi said on Tuesday that about 12,000 brick kilns are operational in the state but they will be closed with the monsoon and the workers working on these brick kilns want to return home.
