A hearing was held today in the Supreme Court on the plea to provide better facilities to the doctors and medical personnel fighting the battle with Corona. The court asked whether the High Court cannot supervise the matter. The court said that the central government has issued a circular that the salaries of the doctors will not be deducted and the chief secretary will ensure that, otherwise severe punishment will be met.
On behalf of the Central Government, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that non-payment of salaries to doctors would be considered a criminal offense and would attract punishment. The Chief Secretaries of each state have been asked to ensure that all doctors are duly paid their salaries.
The Solicitor General said that we are doing everything correctly, such petitions cannot be considered adverse. We are taking special care of doctors and nurses, quarantine facilities are also being provided wherever possible. On behalf of the petitioner, KV Vishwanathan said that we need a clear order from the Supreme Court on quarantine facility and salary.
KV Vishwanathan said that the affidavit submitted by the Solicitor Journal is unclear and does not give information about whether orders are being followed or not. Vishwanathan told the Supreme Court that doctors and medical staff are being given salary regularly.
The Supreme Court has directed the Center to issue a clear order regarding the living facilities, quarantine facility and salary of doctors and medical staff. The Supreme Court said that by tomorrow the order will be issued to the states by the Center. The court further stated that all people should have the facility of quarantine for at least seven days.
With this, the Supreme Court said that the Solicitor General will have to inform the concerned authorities about this by evening. After the clear order is issued by the Center, every state will file its status report within four weeks.
