Sanjay Kothari, Secretary to the President has been appointed the new Chief Vigilance Commissioner of the country. According to reports, officials informed on Wednesday that Kothari has been elected as the new Chief Vigilance Commissioner by a high-powered committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This committee, with a majority decision, has elected former Information and Broadcasting Secretary Bimal Julka as the new Chief Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission. He is serving as the Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission. A senior government official said Kothari and Julka have been chosen as the next CVC and CIC. Both Sanjay Kothari and Bimal Julka are retired Indian Administrative Service officers.
According to sources, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary opposed these decisions in Lok Sabha, but other members in the panel were in support including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister of State for PMO and Personnel Jitendra Singh, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba and Secretary Personnel C. Chandramouli. The panel decided to appoint Suresh Patel as Vigilance Commissioner and Anita Pandove as Information Commissioner by majority. The order related to the appointments is expected to be issued on Wednesday following the formal approval of President Ram Nath Kovind. The Central Vigilance Commission is an autonomous body monitoring corruption in the country.
