The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was established on March 10, 1969. Its main objective is to provide security to the country's critical industrial establishments, nuclear plants, airports, and other essential locations.

This force is also responsible for securing the Delhi Metro, ports, historical monuments, and key government buildings. CISF is a part of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).

Initially, CISF consisted of only 2,800 personnel, but this number has been significantly increased over time. Today, the force is in the hundreds of thousands.

Asha Sinha's Historic Appointment in CISF

There are seven forces under the CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces). Among them, BSF (Border Security Force), ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police), Assam Rifles, and SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) are responsible for guarding the country's borders.

Additionally, the CAPF includes NSG (National Security Guard), CISF (Central Industrial Security Force), and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force). All these forces operate under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Initially, recruitment and deployment in CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) were limited to men only. However, in 1992, Asha Sinha achieved a significant milestone when she was appointed as the Commandant at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.

This made her the first female Commandant in India's Central Armed Police Forces. Prior to this, the role of women in the Central Armed Police Forces was restricted, with them only being allowed to take on supervisory roles.

Asha Sinha's appointment broke this barrier and paved the way for women to attain higher positions in these forces.
