Oscar Awards Nominations

How a Film Gets Nominated for an Oscar, Understand the Complete Process

The Oscars are organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in the United States. It's important to note that for a film to be nominated for an Oscar, it must go through several specific processes.

These processes involve multiple stages and rules that must be considered for a film to be nominated.

The organization that decides the Oscar Awards, AMPAS, has over 10,000 members divided into different sections, such as directors, actors, writers, and cinematographers. Each member evaluates films based on their respective sections.

Additionally, specific rules must be followed for a film to qualify for an Oscar entry. For example, the film must have a minimum length of 40 minutes to be considered a feature film.

Furthermore, it must screen in theatres within Los Angeles County for at least seven days.

Submission Process

The film director must officially submit their film for the Oscars. The producer fills out an application form on the Academy's portal, providing all relevant information about the film.

Additionally, a screening of the film is held for the Academy members to consider it for nomination.

During the screening, aspects such as the story, acting, direction, cinematography, and other technical elements are evaluated. Following this, Academy members vote to nominate films in various categories.

Once the voting process concludes, AMPAS compiles a list of the nominated films, which is then publicly announced by the Academy.
