Padma Shri Awardee Veteran Actor Sadhu Meher Passes Away, PM Modi Expresses Grief

Renowned actor and director Sadhu Meher, who made his mark in both the Hindi and Odia film industries, passed away at the age of 84 in Mumbai on Friday.

The news of the demise of the famous actor, director, and Padma Shri awardee Sadhu Meher has not only shocked the film industry but also his fans immensely.

Fans and stars of the film industry are paying their respects to Meher. Prime Minister Modi has also expressed sorrow over the demise of veteran actor Sadhu Meher, sharing a post on social media.

PM Modi took to social media and wrote, "The demise of Shri Sadhu Meher Ji is a profound loss for the film industry and our cultural heritage. Both the Hindi and Odia cinema will always remember the veteran actor for his cinematic contributions. My condolences to his family, colleagues, and numerous fans who are grieving this irreparable loss. We honor the rich artistic legacy left behind by him. Peace.

Renowned Actor Sadhu Meher's Demise Shocks All

The demise of Sadhu Meher has left everyone stunned. Originally from Manamunda in the Boudh district of Odisha, Meher began his career in Hindi films with movies like "Bhuvan Shome," "Ankur," and "Mrigayaa" before venturing into Odia cinema.

Meher was also known for his roles in other Hindi films such as "27 Down" (1974), "Manthan" (1976), and "Inkaar" (1977).

Padma Shri Awardee Veteran Actor Sadhu Meher

Sadhu Meher was the first person from Odisha to win the National Award for Best Actor. He was awarded the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film "Ankur."

He was also honoured with the Padma Shri in 2017 for his lifelong contribution to the entertainment industry. In 2011, he was conferred the Jayadev Award by the Odisha government.

Meher has also worked in several Bengali films, including those directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Sandip Ray, and Utpalendu Chakraborty.

His portrayal in the Sambalpuri language film "Bhukha" directed by Sabyasachi Mohapatra in 1989 was highly acclaimed.
