PM Modi to visit Mumbai to Pay Last Respects to Lata Mangeshkar, Two-Day National Mourning Announced

Two days of "national mourning" has been announced on the death of Bharat Ratna and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. The national flag will remain at half-mast across India from February 6 to February 7. Lata Mangeshkar, who has been ill for almost a month, was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after being infected with Corona and breathed her last today. Condolence messages are pouring in from all sections of society on his death.

The body of late Lata Mangeshkar is currently kept at her residence Prabhu Kunj on Peddar Road. Her body will be taken to Shivaji Park at 4.30 pm where she will be cremated with full state honours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also reaching Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Maidan in the evening to pay tribute to Lata Mangeshkar.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi tweeted and said, 'Lata didi expressed various emotions through her songs. She has been a keen observer of the changes in the Indian cinema industry throughout the years. She was constantly ardent for India's progress, even outside of cinema. She had always wished for a powerful and developed India. I'm at a loss for words to explain my anguish. Lata didi, who was sweet and kind, had left us. Future generations will remember him as the stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to captivate people.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Sunday that the last rites of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar would be performed with state honours. Thackeray said in a statement that a glorious era has come to an end with the passing away of Lata Mangeshkar. The Chief Minister said that the melodious voice of the singer will remain immortal and everyone is saddened to hear the news of her demise. The Chief Minister said in a statement, “Her voice brought alive every situation in everyone's life. Her voice broke the barriers of language, region, caste, creed and religion. She will always be with us."
