Samantha's next film is Shakuntalam which is in Telugu. Samantha will be seen in the role of Shakuntala and the film is based on Kalidas' famous play Shakuntala. Gunasekhar is the writer, director, and producer of this film. Recently, Gunasekhar's daughter Neelima had revealed that Samantha loved the script of the film but was hesitant to sign it as she was doing family planning with Naga Chaitanya last year.
