As we all know, International Yoga Day is celebrated on 21 June every year at the world level. The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, has been a great contributor to the beginning of celebrating this day all over the world as he first started this festival on 21 June 2015. Yoga Day in India is organised by the Ministry of AYUSH.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the benefits of Yoga in the United Nation, the benefits of yoga and its importance were explained to people all over the world and today all over the world, this day is celebrated with great enthusiasm.

Its main objective is to connect the people of the entire world with yoga so that a healthy and sound world can be made. The biggest thing about this global festival is that India has the biggest contribution in promoting this festival all over the world.

The United Nation announced in its assembly within 3 months that World Yoga Day would be celebrated on 21 June. PM Narendra Modi had put his suggestion in front of the United Nation on 27 September 2014, which he announced by giving approval on 11 December 2014.

Since then, this day is being celebrated all over the world on 21 June. This day is also called Yoga Day. On this day, each and every person practices Yoga. Even all the ministers and PM Narendra Modi himself participates in it.

Along with doing yoga on this day, people also organize other things such as meditation, meeting, promoting people for yoga, debate competitions on yoga and writing as well as cultural events. The beginning of yoga has started before 5000 years, which has revealed how important yoga is for human life.

The Prime Minister also performs yoga with the youth on one of the main places of India on this day and explains the importance of yoga to the people. Yoga is very important in our life because it gets rid of many types of diseases and keeps us healthy. The Prime Minister Yoga Award is also announced on this day.

Not only India, this day is being celebrated in every corner of the world and people are adopting yoga. It started in India, but today the whole world has started accepting it. We Indians should be proud of this great heritage of India.

BENEFITS OF YOGA

·         The power in yoga is not in any other exercise in the world.

·         The most important thing about yoga is that for yoga you do not need any kind of machine. Also, yoga is such a physical activity that one can get freedom from all diseases without any medicine.

·         For yoga, you need to give just 20-30 minutes daily in the morning and yoga will keep you active all day long.

·         Yoga is also a better exercise for children, which keeps children healthy and at the same time makes their mind calm and strong.

·         Regular yoga reduces body weight.

·     This removes the anxiety of the mind, which keeps diseases away from the body like mental stress and hypertension.

·         By doing yoga, positive thoughts are generated in the mind and at the same time mind works faster.

         DO'S OF YOGA

  • Always practice Asanas with empty stomach and consume small amount of honey in lukewarm water if you feel weak.
  • Before starting practice Yoga, bladder and bowels should be empty.
  • Yoga should be practiced slowly, I a relaxed manner, with awareness of the body, mind and breath.
  • A warm up exercise and stretches is mandatory before Asanas to avoid injuries.
  • Asanas should be performed slowly and one should move to advanced postures with a lot of practice to avoid injuries.
  • Avoid eating food like meat, eggs, onion, garlic and mushrooms from diet.
  • Keep yourself hydrated before practicing yoga.
  • Wear supportive and comfortable clothes before practicing yoga.
  • Yoga should be practiced in a well ventilated room with pleasant air.
  • Always use a mat with a good grip to do yagasanas.
  • Always concentrate on the breathing while doing yoga.

DON'TS OF YOGA

  • Don't perform yoga in a state of exhaustion, illness, in a hurry and in an acute stress conditions.
  • Women should refrain from regular yoga practice especially asanas during their menses. Relaxation techniques and pranayama can be done instead.
  • Don't perform yoga immediately after meal, wait for at least 2 to 3 hours.
  • Don't take shower, drink water or eat anything for 30 minutes after the yoga.
  • One should avoid doing yoga at the time of illness, surgeries, or any sprains or fractures. They can resume yoga after consulting experts.
  • Don't do strenuous exercises after yoga.
  • Don't practice yoga in adverse and extreme weather conditions.
