Gujarat: Three-storey Building Collapses in Kheda, 4 People Died, Rescue Operation Continues

Four people, including a one-year-old girl, were killed and five injured after being buried in the rubble of a collapsed three-storey building in Gujarat's Nadiad city amid heavy rains. Kheda Superintendent of Police Divya Mishra said on Saturday that the building collapsed in Pragati Nagar area late on Friday night.

Nine people were buried in the building debris, out of which four died and five injured were taken out alive. He has been admitted to a government hospital. Mishra said that with the help of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Nadiad, Vadodara and Ahmedabad fire departments, rescue and relief operations were carried out for about seven hours and ended at 6 am on Saturday. The district police also helped in the rescue operation.

Police said the deceased have been identified as Kamran Bhai Ansari (45), Alina (1), Poonamben Sachdev (45) and Rajesh Darji (65). The building which has fallen is of Gujarat Housing Board Construction. According to data provided by the State Emergency Response Center, Nadiad received 201 mm of rain in 24 hours till 8 am Saturday.
