After a debate on Reservation bill, Lok Sabha has passed a bill to introduce 10% reservation for poorer sections of general category.
Lok Sabha has noded to pass a constitution amendment bill for the general category aspirants for jobs and educational institutions.
Sumitra Mahajan, Lok Sabha speaker said that the bill had been supported by 323 members, on the other hand, only 3 members voted against the bill.
Now, the bill will be taken up by the Rajya Sabha today after getting the majority of votes from Lok Sabha.
This is for the first time in the country that someone economic status would entitle a person to reservation benefit at a national level.
Reportedly, after passing the 10% quota reservation bill likely to cover nearly 190 million people belongs to general category.
With this bill, BJP-led national coalition tried to reach out to upper caste groups and once-dominant agrarian communities like Gujjar, Patidars, Jats and Marathas who have been fighting for the reservation for decades.
However, the majority of the population in the northern and central India like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and others have been shared by the upper castes.
Jats and Gujjars are mainly dominated Rajasthan, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh.
