President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday approved the appointment of governors in Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Nagaland. According to information received from Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Governor of Tamil Nadu Banwarilal Purohit has been appointed as the Punjab Governor. While Nagaland Governor RN Ravi has been appointed as the Tamil Nadu Governor.

Along with this, Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Retd) has been appointed as the Governor of Uttarakhand. The additional charge of Governor of Nagaland has been given to Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi.

Resignation of Baby Rani Maurya

After the resignation of a Uttarakhand governor Baby Rani Maurya, former Vice Chief of Army Staff and retired Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh has been made the Uttarakhand Governor. However, considering an expert on affairs of China, Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh retired in February 2016 after nearly four decades of military service. As Additional Director General of Military Operations in the Army, Gurmeet also handled military-strategic issues related to China. He was part of many important expert groups during his service in the army. He took part in military-diplomatic talks with China on the Line of Actual Control seven times.
