The murder of a former diplomat's daughter in Pakistan's capital Islamabad has shocked the city. The story of Noor Muqaddam's death is very painful because it is not an ordinary death. Wrapped in a coffin, Noor's head is separated from her body. This was not a sudden accident, but it was a heart-wrenching incident of a brutal murder.
After killing Noor, her throat was slit. His childhood friend Zahir Zafir has been arrested on suspicion of his murder. There is an old and good acquaintance between the families of both.
According to the police investigation, on July 20, Noor Muqaddam, a resident of Islamabad, was murdered by slitting her throat with a sharp weapon. Many people were present in the house where Noor was murdered at the time of the incident.
Noor Muqaddam's father and former ambassador Shaukat Muqaddam has got the name of his friend Zahir Zafir written in the FIR. However Shaukat Muqaddam was Pakistan's ambassador to South Korea. When Noor's funeral procession was being taken to the burial, the scene was heart-wrenching. Her father leans on Noor's face and says, 'I handed over my daughter to Allah.'
What happened to Noor was told to her father much later. He used to ask that 'the bullet has hit', then everyone used to tell him that 'yes'. When the coffin was being taken to the mosque for funeral prayers, everyone present there was silent. There was pity and surprise on the faces of the people as if no one had anything to say.
People were trying to console the bereaved family. The family members would patiently meet those expressing regret, but could not hold back the tears from their eyes. Noor's father and former ambassador Shaukat Muqaddam, who was present in the cemetery, was sitting near the daughter's grave with the help of a stone. He told that till the evening of the murder, he was busy in registering the FIR in the police station.
A woman who came to the cemetery says, 'We are all very upset, our children are not safe, how should we protect our children. The way Noor has been brutally killed doesn't deserve an apology. The Chief Justice should take cognizance of this.
Aaliya Ghul, a close friend of Noor said, 'She was really Noor. He never wished ill to anyone or spoke ill of anyone. She was a painter and community worker. On every friend's birthday, she used to make cards herself. His friends say that no one even imagined what happened to him. There were many employees in the house where Noor lived.
Noor's friends say that she used to speak very slowly, she must have called for help at the time of the murder, but no one might have heard. His friend Zahir Zafir has been arrested on suspicion of killing Noor. He is the son of the CEO of a big real estate company in Islamabad.
Islamabad Police said that when the accused Zahir Zafir was arrested, his mental condition was absolutely fine. He was completely in his senses. SSP Investigation Ataur Rahman, commenting on the news circulating on social media, said that the accused may have had poor mental health before, but the day he was arrested, his mental condition was absolutely fine.
The police said in his statement, 'He was completely in his senses. He was tied up, he had attacked someone else too, when the police reached the spot, people tied him up and caught him. As far as this incident is concerned, he was completely conscious.
