Senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor has got a big relief from Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court. The court has acquitted him in the Sunanda Pushkar death case. Let us tell you that the wife of Congress leader Sunanda died on January 17, 2014, in a big hotel in Delhi. A few days before her death, Sunanda Pushkar had alleged that her husband had an affair with a Pakistani female journalist.
Also, the police had accused Shashi Tharoor of abetting his wife Sunanda Pushkar's suicide and of dowry. But in the court, the police could not present concrete evidence along with the charge sheet to prove both these charges.
Senior advocate Vikas Pahwa, appearing for the defense, had cited the post-mortem report regarding the death of Sunanda Pushkar and the report of forensic examination of the viscera in three different labs. There was no mention of the exact cause of death in any of the reports. All were only speculations. On the basis of the defense's argument and perusal of documents, the court pronounced the discharge of Tharoor's charge.
After getting relief from the court, the Congress MP thanked the court. He said that I was going through this torture and pain for 7.5 years. Tharoor's counsel in the court said that a special investigation team has completely acquitted the politician and as such he should be acquitted as there is no evidence to substantiate any charge against him.
Delhi Police had registered a case against Tharoor under sections 307, 498A. He was charged with abetment to suicide and cruelty to his wife. The medical board of AIIMS submitted the post-mortem report of Sunanda's body to the Delhi Police on 29 September 2014. It was said in this report that Sunanda died of poison.
