Daily Lok Adalat at Supreme Court Until August 3, Chief Justice Discloses Schedule

Since Independence

The Supreme Court has started its first special Lok Adalat from today. Through this Lok Adalat, the Supreme Court aims to expedite the hearings of pending cases.

Lok Adalats will be held daily from today until August 3rd. Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud has shared his experiences regarding this initiative.

Supreme Court's Week-Long Lok Adalats

Chief Justice Chandrachud shared his experience today, saying, "Throughout this week, the Supreme Court is organizing Lok Adalats with 7 benches. Our experience today has been that it was a resounding success. The Lok Adalat benefits from the cooperation of the Bar, Supreme Court judges, as well as extensive groundwork done by High Courts, state governments, and insurance companies. The objective is to resolve minor cases. People are often unaware of how minor cases come to the Supreme Court, which is why we have selected cases such as service disputes, labour disputes, land acquisition cases, motor accident claims, and cheque dishonour cases."

He further stated, "The presence of bar members as part of the Lok Adalat panels alongside judges has sent a strong message across society that we are united in our efforts to administer justice, especially for the citizens involved in these smaller cases. I hope that with this Lok Adalat, it will become institutionalized in the Supreme Court in the future."

What is the Purpose of Lok Adalat?

The purpose of the Supreme Court's special Lok Adalat is to reduce the number of pending cases before the Supreme Court. The Lok Adalat will be held from July 29 to August 3.

It will be conducted daily after 2 PM, with each session featuring two Supreme Court judges, a senior advocate, and an advocate-on-record for case hearings.
