The 'Pralay' ballistic missiles are the result of intensive research and development by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), a key organisation charged with upgrading India's defence technologies.
Notably, the DRDO reached a critical milestone in December 2022 by successfully executing the second flight test of the indigenous 'Pralay' surface-to-surface missile.
This achievement was notable since the ballistic missile was successfully tested on two consecutive days. The tests were conducted off the coast of Odisha, and the missile met all mission goals, according to the DRDO.
The 'Pralay' missile was evaluated for its capacity to carry a bigger payload and function at different ranges during the second test flight, demonstrating its precision and lethality as a weapon.
An array of range sensors and instrumentation, including telemetry, radar, and electro-optic tracking systems positioned along the eastern coast, were used to closely monitor the launch.
Downrange ships were also stationed near the impact point to collect vital information.
