Delhi Liquor Scam: Disappointed by High Court, Manish Sisodia Appeals to Supreme Court for Bail

Since Independence

In the Delhi liquor policy case, Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia has approached the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court rejected his bail.

Sisodia is seeking bail from the Supreme Court in both the CBI and ED cases. The former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi will have his bail plea heard by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

A bench comprising Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice Sandeep Mehta will hear the case on Tuesday, the same day the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be announced.

Irregularities Were Found in Liquor Policy Amendments

According to investigative agencies, irregularities were observed while amending the liquor policy, benefiting license holders inappropriately.

Last week, the Delhi High Court dismissed Manish Sisodia's bail plea in cases related to money laundering and corruption filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and CBI concerning the liquor policy.

Following the rejection of bail, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) expressed "respectful disagreement" with the High Court's decision and indicated approaching the Supreme Court to seek justice.

The High Court had stated that Sisodia is a very powerful and influential figure in the Delhi government. The court had said in its judgment that Sisodia used deceptive methods to show that the Delhi liquor policy had public support, but in reality, the policy was crafted to benefit certain individuals. The court had remarked that this amounted to a form of corruption.
