Assembly Elections 2023: The Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in five states of the country – Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana – by the end of this year.

In this regard, the Election Commission has called a press conference today at 12 noon to announce the election dates. Prior to this, on Friday (October 06) , a meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar was held with observers, during which the Election Commissioner stated, "We need to ensure that the upcoming Assembly elections in these five states are conducted without any influence from money power or muscle power.

Observers have been directed to implement the Model Code of Conduct effectively, and it is imperative that the elections remain entirely free from violence. This is a matter of utmost importance that we need to focus on.

Election Commission's Press Conference on Electoral Phases Today

Today, during the press conference of the Election Commission, a comprehensive overview of various phases of the electoral process will be provided, including the submission of candidate nominations, announcement of polling dates, and the dates for the counting of votes.

It should be noted that the terms of legislative assemblies in Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh are set to conclude on different dates in January 2024, while the term of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end on December 17th of this year.

Political Parties in Full Preparation Mode

According to sources, it is possible that, similar to 2018, single-phase elections may be held in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, and Telangana, while Chhattisgarh may witness two-phase polling, as was the case in the previous election.

It is also being suggested that the polling dates may vary across these five states, but the counting of votes is likely to take place between December 10th and 15th.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are just a few months away. The results of the upcoming state assembly elections will not only shape the political landscape at the state level but are also expected to have an impact on the national level.

Political parties are actively preparing for these contests, and several constituencies are expected to witness interesting political battles.
