Is it necessary to hold a wedding overseas? PM Narendra Modi

Since Independence

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday insisted that “big families” should shun executing weddings abroad and do all these wedding ceremonies in the country. Stating that this craze had been “concerning” him for a long time, he said doing weddings here would guarantee that the “country’s money remains within the country” and that Indian wedding destinations would have facilities matching foreign ones.

In his radio show ‘Mann ki Baat’, PM Modi asked people to buy more ‘Made in India’ products as part of the ‘Vocal for Local’ movement during the marriage season, saying this could protect India from volatile global economic situations.

“Is conducting weddings abroad necessary?” PM Modi

“Since the topic of marriage has come up, one thing has been bothering me for a long time, and if I do not open up my heart’s pain to my family members, who else will do that? Just think, these days a new trend is being created by some families to go abroad and do lavish weddings.

Is this at all important? If we celebrate the celebrations of marriages on Indian soil, among the people of India, the nation’s money will remain in the nation,” said by the Prime Minister of India.

He further added that if rich families did weddings in India, people here would get a chance to induce some service at weddings. “Can you extrapolate on this mission of ‘Vocal for Local’?

He furthermore adds that such big and lavish occasions should be hold in our own ceremonies in our own country. It is probable that the kind of system big lavish weddings want may not be there today, but if we organize such events, systems will also develop. This is a topic related to very big families. I hope this misery of mine will certainly reach those big families,” the PM said.

Bringing out that the victory of Swachh Bharat Mission had motivated the ‘Vocal for Local’ movement, he said this was opening the doors to a developed and profitable India as it boosted the economy and was a guarantee of employment.

“This gives equal chances to both urban and rural people”. he added.

PM Narendra Modi said the belief of becoming vocal towards Indian-made products should not be just for festivals and should expand to weddings as well. He said some well-known trade institutions had evaluated that there could be business of around Rs 5 lakh crore during the wedding season.

Digital India

The PM also underlined the slumping trend of cash payments during Diwali as more people were now making digital payments.

He advised people to try not to use cash for a month or so and make UPI payments only or through any other digital mediums. He also asked such users to share their experiences.
