National Cinema Day has arrived in India, with a significant price reduction. On Friday, September 16, movie tickets will cost Rs. 75 across the country in honor of the successful reopening of theaters.
The one-day-only offer will be offered at almost 4,000 participating theaters, encouraging moviegoers to spend the day at the movies. The promotion is valid in major theaters such as PVR, INOX, Cinépolis, and others, however official websites have not been updated.
The deal was launched by the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) as a "thank you" to moviegoers who helped keep the theatre industry viable.
National Cinema Day is a brand-new event that is already making waves in the United States, with theaters like AMC and Cinemark lowering ticket costs to $3 (about Rs. 240) this weekend. Eve n theatres in the United Kingdom are getting in on the act, with a celebration slated on Saturday, September 3, starting at £3. (about Rs. 277).
On September 16, Indian theaters will join in the fun. The official National Cinema Day website does not specify any limits, noting that all films, regardless of format or language, would be priced the same. However, the sum does not include any additional taxes assessed on purchases made through online third-party applications or websites.
In India, for example, BookMyShow is still required to charge extra internet costs and GST on top of the Rs. 75 pricing. If you want to save every dime, travel back in time and wait in lines.
The National Cinema Day website also has a trailer promoting some of the films that will be shown in theaters, however, it is limited to the United States. The local fare will undoubtedly predominate in Indian theaters, featuring titles from the Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and other Indian film industries, such as the forthcoming Brahmstra, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, which opens on September 9.
We also have a slew of Hollywood films that have been out for a while or have made a comeback, like in the case of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was re-released Friday with new content.
As previously indicated, BookMyShow, PVR, INOX, and Cinépolis' websites have yet to be updated. More details on National Cinema Day will be disclosed as the date approaches on September 16.
