Anjali Tyagi

The registry of the Supreme Court has taken a proactive step to caution the public against a phishing attack that misuses the Supreme Court's name to steal personal and confidential data. The advisory comes as a timely reminder of the ongoing battle against cyber fraud.

The Supreme Court's registry has brought attention to a phishing attack involving the creation of a fraudulent website that poses as the official Supreme Court website.

The deceptive website is hosted on URLs such as http://cbins/scigv.com and https://cbins.scigv.com/offence.

Particularly concerning is the latter URL, which bears the title 'Offence of Money-Laundering' and is being exploited to collect users' sensitive information, including personal details, internet banking credentials, and credit/debit card information.

Personal credentials Put at risk of misuse

The deceptive website employs an official appearance and provides users with spaces to enter various confidential details. These include essential information such as bank names, phone numbers, permanent account numbers (PANs), online banking user IDs, login passwords, and card passwords.

The registry has issued a stern advisory to anyone accessing the aforementioned URLs, strongly urging them to refrain from sharing any personal or confidential information.

Emphasizing the fact that the Registry of the Supreme Court of India never solicits personal, financial, or confidential information, the advisory seeks to raise awareness and prevent unwitting victims from falling into the trap set by cybercriminals.

Advisory by The Supreme Court of India

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Supreme Court of India has promptly alerted law enforcement agencies to this phishing attack. The intention is to initiate a thorough investigation and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

The advisory further underscores that the official domain of the Supreme Court of India is www.sci.gov.in To safeguard against falling victim to such scams, individuals are encouraged to verify URLs before interacting with them.

For those who may have already fallen victim to this phishing attack, the advisory offers crucial steps to mitigate potential damage. It advises victims to change passwords for all online accounts and promptly notify their respective banks and credit card companies about any unauthorized access.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the necessity to remain vigilant against evolving cyber threats. With the Supreme Court taking a proactive stance, it's a collective call for individuals to exercise caution, verify sources, and fortify their online security measures
