UU Lalit Becomes New Chief Justice of India, President Droupadi Murmu Administered Oath

Justice UU Lalit i.e. Uday Umesh Lalit has become the new Chief Justice of the country. He has become the 49th Chief Justice of the country.

President of India Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Justice Lalit at 10.30 am on Saturday i.e. on Aug 27.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan and was attended by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Minister of Law Kiren Rijiju, former Chief Justice NV Ramana and several senior Supreme Court judges.

Apart from these, the family members of Justice Lalit were also present there.

Let us tell you that Justice Lalit is very soft-tempered and his tenure will be only 74 days. After this, he will retire on 8 November 2022.

Justice Lalit said at the farewell function of Justice NV Ramana on Friday, Aug 26 evening that he would try to set up a constitution bench to hear constitutional issues throughout the year.

At the same time, he also said that he will keep any matter in the court as transparent as possible so that decision-making is easy.

Justice Lalit has been a lawyer in many important cases. In 1997, Justice Lalit appeared as Kalyan Singh's lawyer in court.

After this, at the time of the decision regarding the Ram Mandir in 2019, he was also included in the Constitutional Bench of 5 judges of the Supreme Court.

Apart from this, he has also been a lawyer in Salman Khan's blackbuck hunting case and General VK Singh's date of birth dispute case.
