Five Navy personnel going to Mount Trishul in Uttarakhand for mountaineering went missing after being hit by an avalanche. A porter accompanying them is also missing. Since this morning accident in Chamoli district, a search operation is being conducted to search six people, including the jawans, but no leads have been collected so far.
According to news agency PTI, a team of Nehru Mountaineering Institute (NIM) located in Uttarkashi has left for the spot in search of climbers. Also, the team is being led by the Principal of the institute, Colonel Amit Bisht. According to NIM, the Indian Navy's Adventure Wing sought help from NIM's search and rescue team for relief and rescue at around 11 am. Army rescue teams have also rushed to the spot to search for the missing climbers. A 20-member Navy team had gone to the 7120 meters high Trishul peak about 15 days ago.
On the other hand, the District Disaster Management Officer of Chamoli said that they do not have any official information regarding this but information related to the matter is being collected. They say that the district administration has sent its teams to the spot, but they too could not find a clue of the missing jawans. It is being told that due to bad weather, there is a lot of difficulty in gathering the clues of the missing people. However, rescue teams and helicopters of the Army, Air Force, and State Disaster Response Force are involved in the operation.
According to the sources, a 20-member mountaineering team of the Navy had gone for the ascent of the 7,120 meters high Trishul peak about 15 days ago. On Friday morning at around five o'clock, the team proceeded to scale the peak. During this, an avalanche occurred. Five mountaineers and a porter of the Navy came under its grip. According to TV reports, five members of the team are safe. He has returned to his base camp after suffering minor injuries.
Mount Trishul is located on the border of Chamoli district in the Bageshwar district of Kumaon. Being a group of three peaks, it is called Trishul. Mountaineering teams go from Joshimath and Ghat of Chamoli district for the ascent of this peak. This avalanche is being reported beyond Trishuli Base Camp. The incident happened when the team was going from Camp 3. This team had gone trekking on Trishuli mountain at an altitude of about 6700 meters.
