Mass demonstrations are taking place in Brazil against President Jair Bolsonaro. Thousands of people marched on the beat of drums in Rio de Janeiro, chanting 'Bolsonaro leave the throne'. The reason for this is Bolsonaro's policies regarding Corona and allegations of corruption in vaccine purchase. Bolsonaro initially described corona as a common disease like the flu, due to which preventive measures could not be taken in the country in time.

People were already outraged about it. Due to these lax policies of Bolsonaro, more than five lakh epidemics have died in the country. Now the latest controversy is about allegations of seeking bribes in vaccine purchase. The Supreme Court has also ordered an inquiry into it.

People Protested against Jair Bolsonaro

At the same time, 100 leaders of opposition parties have also presented a draft to impeach Jair Bolsonaro. He says that the way angry people removed President Dilma Rousseff after demonstrations in 2016, similar demonstrations are happening now. Congress member of Sao Paulo, Joyce Hasselman, who was a staunch supporter of Jair Bolsonaro until recently, now says that Bolsonaro has committed crimes regarding Corona that are not excusable.

Brazil can't afford another year with Bolsonaro. As the number of lawmakers supporting impeachment continues to grow, Bolsonaro has begun to speak of fraud in the October 2022 elections. He says that elections are to be held next year using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), which can be easily rigged. His electoral defeat would be the result of fraud.

Vaccine scandal Reported

On the other hand, according to Senator Humberto Costa, a member of the special committee set up to fight Corona, 'Bolsonaro's image was that of an honest politician before, but the vaccine scandal has weakened the image.' Surveys conducted in Brazil show that in the past. The pandemic has devastated a large number of people in 15 months and has rapidly shrunk Bolsonaro's base.

Bolsonaro would lose to his main political rival and former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, according to a survey conducted by survey agency Ipec. Guilherme Casares, a political analyst and professor at the Getulio Vargas Foundation in So Paulo, said the president's political isolation has made him radical.

What is Vaccine Purchase Scam

In February, India signed a deal to buy the vaccine from Precisa Medicamentos, the representative of Bharat Biotech in Brazil. The price was fixed at $ 15 (about Rs 1117), according to which a total of $ 320 million was to be paid. When it came to bribery in the deal, it got cancelled. A few days later, a representative of a pharmaceutical company accused Roberto Ferreira Dias, the head of logistics at the Health Ministry, of taking a bribe of one dollar per dose to buy vaccines from AstraZeneca.
