There is a danger of a Power Crisis in Rajasthan due to a shortage of coal. In view of the power supply in the upcoming festivals, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has given instructions to the officials of the electricity department and companies. The CM asked the officers to maintain the power supply in the state without any interruption and also to coordinate with the central government for the supply of coal.

Demand has been made to increase the supply of coal

Officials of the department said that due to less availability of coal, less electricity is being generated. So far in the month of October, electricity worth Rs 182 crore has to be bought from the exchange. The demand may increase further during festivals. There is a need to get coal rakes according to the agreed agreement with Coal India. But even now instead of 11 rakes, only 5 to 6 rakes are being given by Coal India, so again demand has been made from the Government of India to increase the supply of coal.

800 MW of electricity had to be purchased every day

In Rajasthan, an average of 800 MW electricity has been purchased daily from October 1 to 16. This had to be done due to the high demand for electricity and low production. The officials of the power companies told the CM that earlier there was a demand of 2600 lakh units/day. However, it has come down to 2400 lakh units in the last 3 days. Therefore, the electricity which was available on an average of Rs 10-12 per unit and higher rates of Rs 18-20 during peak hours. Now on average, electricity is available for Rs 5-6, which is a matter of relief.

In the review meeting of the Chief Minister regarding electricity and coal, the officials said that the state is now getting 11 rakes of coal per day from the allotted captive coal mines. This has given a lot of relief in running the power plant. Production has recently resumed in the 600 MW closed unit of Kalisindh Power Plant, 660 MW unit of Suratgarh Super Critical Plant, 195 MW of Kota Thermal, and 250 MW capacity of Suratgarh Power plant. Due to this, the state has got a lot of relief in power supply in the last few days.
