Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova has made it into the women's final of the ongoing Wimbledon 2021. She will now face Australia's Ashleigh Barty in the final. Pliskova defeated Belarus' Aryna Sabalenka 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinal here at the Centre Court.
The first set between Pliskova and Sabalenka saw back and forth action, and at one stage it stood level at 5-5. However, Sabalenka then made a brilliant comeback after losing the first set and she won the first set 7-5. Pliskova continued with her momentum and she won the third and deciding set to progress ahead in the tournament. After advancing to her second Slam final, Pliskova said, "I think we played an amazing match, both of us…. Till now I've never passed the 4th round, and now I'm in the final, so it's an incredible achievement for me. It's tough to enjoy such a fast match, lots of quick winners and errors, so I'm super happy about the win!"
Czech Republic's star player Pliskova had never reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon before. She is playing in the tournament for the 9th time. In her career, she has played the semi-finals of a Grand Slam only 2 times. She achieved this feat at the 2017 French Open and the 2019 Australian Open.
World number-1 Barty has won a Grand Slam only once in her career. She was the champion in the women's singles of the French Open in 2019. After that, she played only once in the semi-finals at the Australian Open. If she wins, it will be her second Grand Slam title.
