EX-IPS and ZPM founder Lalduhoma takes oath as CM of Mizoram. The 73-year-old who won his election from the constituency of Sercchip by 2,982 votes Becomes New CM of the North-eastern State.
In the run-up to the elections, the ZPM and Lalduhoma banked heavily on decades of anti-incumbency against both the Congress and the MNF.
It is for the first time that a party other than the Congress or the MNF has been voted into power since the state’s formation in 1987.
With power having constantly swung between the two parties, the chief ministership alternated between Congress’s Lalthanhawla and MNF’s Zoramthanga since 1993. ZPM's victory ended three decade long duopoly of both parties.
ZPM which was formed 4 years ago after the merger of six smaller parties, registered a land slide victory bagging 27 out of 40 seats.
The seven legislators who took oath as cabinet ministers are:
1- ZPM working president K Sapdanga
2- Vanlalhlana
3- C. Lalsawivunga
4- Lalthansanga (who defeated Zoramthanga)
5- Vanlalthlana
6- PC Vanlalruata
7- Lalrinpuii (the only woman minister in the new cabinet).
The four ministers of state (independent charge) are:
1- F Rodingliana
2- B Lalchhanzova
3- Lalnilawma
4- Lalnghinglova Hmar
