Speaking in Washington DC, Rahul Gandhi, aged 52, expressed his belief that the Congress party would perform exceptionally well in the coming two years.
He emphasized the presence of a hidden undercurrent, which he believes will lead to surprising outcomes in the future.
Addressing the unity of the Opposition in India, Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Congress party, remarked, "The Opposition in India exhibits a significant level of unity, and I observe that it is growing stronger with time."
"We are engaged in discussions with all the Opposition parties, and I must say that substantial progress is being made," Rahul Gandhi stated when referring to the ongoing conversations.
In a significant development, numerous opposition parties, primarily sharing similar ideologies, are coming together to form an alliance to challenge the ruling BJP government in the critical 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Highlighting the outcome of the Karnataka assembly elections, where the Congress party achieved a decisive majority and removed the BJP from power, Rahul Gandhi remarked, "Let's wait and observe the results of the upcoming three or four state elections, as they provide a better indication of what is to come."
Rahul Gandhi added, "The discussion is complex because there are instances where we are also competing with other Opposition parties. Therefore, it requires a certain level of compromise and negotiation. However, I have confidence that this process will take place."
During the interaction, Rahul Gandhi responded to various questions, encompassing topics such as press and religious freedoms in India, challenges encountered by minorities, and the state of the economy.
In response to a query regarding the widespread popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a global scale, Rahul Gandhi expressed his view that there is a discernible influence on the institutions within the country.
Rahul Gandhi commented on the state of the press in the country, stating, "There is a clear influence on the press. I remain unconvinced and do not blindly accept everything I hear."
In response to the deterioration of press freedom in India, he stated that press freedom is important to democracy.
