Mohammad Rafi of the Indira Congress won this seat in 1980. So, in 1985, Naresh Chandra of the Congress won, and in 2012, Ravidas Mehrotra of the SP won. In all three elections, BJP candidates came in second place. In terms of the political history of this constituency, Ramprakash won it in 1977 on a JNP ticket, but in 1980, he was defeated on a BJP ticket. Simultaneously, in the 1985 elections that followed, Naresh Chandra of the Congress Party was successful.
Simultaneously, in the elections of 1989 and 1991, Basant Lal Gupta of the BJP was elected to the assembly from this seat. Ram Prakash of the BJP was elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1993 after beating Vinod Bihari Verma of the SP. Following this, Suresh Kumar Srivastava of the BJP won a hat-trick of elections in 1996, 2002, and 2007, but the BJP's chariot was halted by the SP in 2012. Ravidas Mehrotra of the SP beat Vidya Sagar Gupta of the BJP in the 2012 elections. Simultaneously, in 2017, the BJP made a return and won its seventh election in this seat. Brajesh Pathak, who ran on a BJP ticket from the BSP, was elected to the legislature after battling. He beat the then-SP MLA Ravidas Mehratra by over 5,000 votes.

Aminabad is recognized as a major market for chicken clothes. This is the Mughal market of Lucknow, whose existence has remained till date.
