During Rajasthan's power crisis, electricity is being acquired at exorbitant prices through short-term auctions. People may have to pay higher power rates in the coming days as a result of a fuel fee on their bills. In truth, power purchase agreements were signed by the Chief Engineer of Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam after a short-term tendering process. In this case, permission has been granted to purchase energy for the period April-May 2022 at a rate of up to Rs 11.15 per unit. Previously, in February 2022, 150 MW of power was acquired for Rs 5.34 to Rs 6.75 per unit.

Power purchases were allowed from March 1 to August 31 by initiating different tenders every month. Meanwhile, due to the severe power deficit, 800-800 MW of electricity was required in April and May. Due to the high cost in the present summertime, Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam has committed to purchase 100 MW of energy at a rate of Rs 11 15 paise per unit from April 11 to April 30, 2022. A deal has been reached to purchase 200 MW of power at Rs 10 per unit from 1 May to 31 May 2022.

In addition, in May, a deal was made to purchase 100 MW of power at a rate of Rs 11 per unit. Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Limited has completed the auction for all three electricity distribution companies - Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam. According to sources, new power purchase tenders may be granted shortly due to the rising demand for current electricity. Their unit cost might also be significant.

From March Through August 2022, Power will be Purchased in a Continuous Short-Term Tender

Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam also held additional short-term auctions for power purchasing from March to August 2022.
