The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Tuesday named fast bowler Stuart Broad as the vice-captain for the first Test against New Zealand starting on Wednesday. He has been given this responsibility for the series against New Zealand. He will play as deputy to regular captain Joe Root. The English team will play the first match of the 2-Test series against New Zealand at Lord's from today.
Broad has played 146 Tests, 121 ODIs, and 56 T20s in his career so far. In Tests, he took 517 wickets and scored 3355 runs. Broad has 178 wickets and 529 runs in ODIs. He has so far taken 65 wickets in T20. Apart from this, he has scored 118 runs.
Earlier last week, England's head coach Chris Silverwood included Kent wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings and Nottinghamshire's top-order batsman Haseeb Hameed in England's squad. Surrey regular wicketkeeper Ben Foakes suffered a left hamstring injury ahead of the county match against Middlesex. Due to this, he was not included in the team.
