IND Vs SL 3rd ODI Preview: Sri Lanka will Look to Win Final Match

IND Vs SL 3rd ODI Preview: The Men in Blue side have won their 10th ODI series against Sri Lanka at home and they have kept their winning record intact. This win largely came because of Kuldeep Yadav's three wickets and KL Rahul's match-winning knock of unbeaten 64 runs knock.

IND Vs SL 3rd ODI Preview: Team India’s Likely Playing XI

Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma(c), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya(vc), Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami/Arshdeep Singh/Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik and Yuzvendra Chahal/Kuldeep Yadav.

India has won yet another one-day international series against Sri Lanka and they have also kept their winning record intact against the Lankan Tigers at home.

India has won yet another one-day international series against Sri Lanka

Kuldeep Yadav was the real hero with the ball as he broke the partnership between Kusal Mendis and Nuwanidu Fernando. The chinaman bowler, Kuldeep, also picked up the big fish, Dasun Shanaka for just two runs.

That helped India to bundle out Sri Lanka for just 215 runs. If Kuldeep had failed to break that threatening stand then India would have been in serious trouble.

Kuldeep Yadav was the real hero with the ball in yesterday's match

Yadav had replaced his good friend Yuzvendra Chahal in the playing XI because Yuzi was injured. Mohammed Siraj also picked up three wickets and he was the game-changer of the 2nd one-day international match.

Despite this series win, India would be a little worried because Sri Lanka made the Blues sweat in the run chase of the modest score of 216 runs.

Rohit and Gill continued their blazing form and provided a brisk start to the run chase. But the Indian openers couldn’t match up to what they did in the 1st ODI at Guhawati.

Virat Kohli was also dismissed early and he couldn’t score his third back-to-back century in ODI Cricket. India will not want their key players like Rohit and Virat to get out early.

Virat Kohli was dismissed early in second ODI

Gill needs to use his opportunity as he is playing his last match because there is a lot of competition for the opener slot. Ishan Kishan, the latest double centurion is still waiting in the wings.

The Blues will also want Virat Kohli to play the most ODI matches because of the ICC World Cup 2023.

After this last ODI match against SL, India will play three matches against New Zealand and that many games against The Aussies after the four-match Test series, which will start on 9th February 2023 in Nagpur.

For the last 3rd and the final ODI, the home team would like to rest Mohammed Shami as he will have to bowl more overs in the series against Australia.

The Blues can add Washington Sundar as another all-round option with Axar and Hardik or they can also go with Arshdeep Singh.

India has three fast bowlers including Umran, Siraj and Hardik. But Hardik needs to bowl his full quota of ten overs. If he doesn't bowl then they will have to go with Arshdeep Singh.

IND Vs SL 3rd ODI Preview: Sri Lanka’s Playing XI

Pathum Nissanka/Avishka Fernando, Nuwanidu Fernando, Kusal Mendis(wk), Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka(c), Wanindu Hasaranga/Maheesh Theekshana, Chamika Karunaratne, Dunith Wellalage/Jeffrey Vandersy, Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara.

The Sri Lankan batters wasted the opportunity to score big in the second one-day international match yesterday.

Avishka Fernando and Nuwanidu Fernando gave them a decent start and Kusal Mendis and the debutant Nuwanindu carried the innings after that nicely. That partnership had put the pressure right back on the Indian bowlers.

Sri Lanka's Nuwanidu Fernando

It was the wicket of Kusal Mendis which brought India right back into the match. Kusal got a start of 34 runs and he even looked good for more.

While the ODI debutant Nuwanidu batted extremely well. He looked calm and composed in his first-ever international match and that too against a top-quality side like India.

But he was unfortunately run out for a half-century and the visitors, Sri Lanka, lost wickets in clusters. Shanaka has been Lanka’s main man on this tour.

The innings were dented even more when the Sri Lankan skipper was clean-bowled for just two runs. The lower order had put up a good fight. Still, SL couldn’t post more than 215 runs.

The bowling effort was brilliant from Sri Lanka. The pacers made early inroads despite going for runs in their initial overs. Karunaratne and Lahiru Kumara picked up two wickets each.

SL will need more effort from them in the final match of this tour. The visitors will also want their batters to step up as well. Sri Lanka can replace Hasaranga and bring Theekshana back for the final game.

Wanindu Hasaranga was economical in the 2nd one-day international match at Kolkata. But he wasn't threatening like Kuldeep Yadav or Axar Patel.

SL can bring Maheesh Theekshana for the last game and even drop Avishka Fernando who couldn’t do the job at the top position.

If Nissanka is fit then he should walk into the playing XI or Kusal Mendis can open the innings for them as he does in T20Is.

IND Vs SL 3rd ODI Preview: Pitch Report

Just like the first two matches, the pitch at Trivandrum will also be a batting-friendly wicket, where runs will be scored thick and fast.

But the reports also say that the wicket will help the spin bowlers.
