ODI Asia Cup 2023: 2 Indian Players Not Selected For This Tournament

ODI Asia Cup 2023: The men in the blue side are the defending champions of the Asia Cup in the one-day international format. India has also won 7 titles, which is the most in this tournament. For the ODI Asia Cup 2023, the Blues have announced a 17-member squad. But these two Indian players are missing.

ODI Asia Cup 2023: India’s campaign in the upcoming Asia Cup of the one-day international format starts on 2nd September 2023 against the arch-rival side, Pakistan.

The men in the blue side might also end up playing thrice against the men in the green side in this year’s tournament.

The Indian Board, BCCI has also named a 17-member squad for the upcoming ODI Asia Cup 2023 yesterday. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will be back in the squad for this tournament hosted by the ACC.

Iyer is declared fully fit while KL has some niggle so Sanju Samson is the backup wicket-keeper for this event.

After a good show in the series of the shortest format against West Indies, Tilak Varma gets a maiden call-up in the Indian ODI side.

Jasprit Bumrah has also regained his fitness and he will be the leader of the Indian pace bowling department.

But the two players who were in the main fray of the selection weren’t picked for the ODI Asia Cup 2023.

Today we will name those two players who haven’t been selected. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has said that the doors are still open for those two players with the ODI World Cup 2023 is around the corner.

1. Yuzvendra Chahal

India's Yuzvendra Chahal

The Indian spinner who plays only the white ball format of this game for the country at the international level was the go-to spin bowler for the men in the blue side.

But India has opted for Kuldeep Yadav in the side for the ODI Asia Cup 2023.

India also has Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel in their squad for this event. These two players (Jaddu and Axar) are the spin bowling all-rounders of the Indian Cricket Team and their presence allows the team to bat deep.

While Yuzi hasn’t done anything wrong in the matches that he has played for the men in blue side so far. Chahal was selected only for the T20I series against West Indies and he didn’t play the fifty overs series there as well.

Even though India lost that series of the shortest format, Yuzvendra did well for his side in those five games.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin

India's Ravichandran Ashwin

The ace spin bowler of the men in blue has also been omitted from the squad in the ODI Asia Cup 2023.

Ravi Ashwin has been a legend for India in the red ball format, especially in the sub-continent and Asian conditions.

Ash also bats pretty well lower down the order. He has scored centuries in the traditional format as well. But his career in the white ball format hasn’t gone well like the Test format.

Ash was in the squad when India won the World Cup in 2011. He was the go-to man for Mahendra Singh Dhoni in all three forms of the game.

Ashwin is quite experienced as a spin-bowling all-rounder of the men in blue side. His experience would have helped the young bowlers like Kuldeep and Axar in that Indian Team.

Ash and Jaddu also make a formidable pair as well. These two spin bowlers (Jaddu and Ash) have done extremely well in the red ball format.

India will miss a quality spin-bowling all-rounder like Ashwin. Axar Patel’s bowling has been an issue, so Ash should have been given a nod ahead of Patel for this ODI Asia Cup 2023 because Ashwin can also do what Axar does for Team India in the fifty-overs format.
